Today was an extra long day’s drive. We had planned to stop at Goodland, KS, but after fighting the wind yesterday, today the wind was at our back. So before we got that far, Larry suggested we continue on to this stop, since it was only another 3 ½ hours additional driving to the 6 we had planned. So here we are one day ahead of time, so later on we’ll have a little more time somewhere down the road.
The drive here today was thankfully uneventful. Kansas had more hills than we expected for the first couple hundred miles. There weren’t many crops in that area, it was mostly cattle ranches. When it leveled out, there were lots of fields of some crop (we don’t have the internet here for me to check out exactly what it was). It looked like a short corn, but with a thick heavy head instead of tassels at the top. Is it a silage crop? Sorghum? Most of the corn had been picked already in Kansas. The corn here in Colorado is still pretty green. There were HUGE grain elevators all along the way. We also saw a few large fields of sunflowers, but in Kansas, they were almost ready to harvest, the heads were dark and hanging down. The ones in Colorado were still yellow, apparently a few weeks later in maturing.
We are at the far end of the campground and don’t have an internet connection at our camper, so Larry will take the computer up close to the office on Wednesday morning to get it posted.
