Sept. 6, 2010 Topeka, KS - Deer Creek Valley RV Park

After a morning visit with Lenny, Emma and Carter, we got on our way about 8:30. They came over for a few minutes to say good-by since they had been gone all day yesterday.

We got here to the campground about 3:00 after two quick stops, one at a rest area, the other for gas and a quick lunch. Larry fought the wind all the way thru Missouri and the hour or so of our drive here in Kansas. It was blowing pretty consistently at 20-25 miles an hour from the south, which was to our side. At least we weren’t headed directly into it. The temperature was 91 when we got here, they are predicting 80 degrees for tomorrow. That should be nice.

This is a nice campground with level paved spots that are nice and large so that you don’t have any too close neighbors.

It’s very clean and well kept. There isn’t much shade at all though. Several of the campers appear to have been here for quite a while. Often, when a campground has long term occupants, they tend to get a little run-down, but that isn’t the case here. They have a fenced dog park which is nice because Harry and Penny could be in there off the leash and they had it all to themselves. After a day cooped up in the truck, they were getting restless.

It looks like this wind is going to blow in a rain for tonight. We’ll settle in for the evening with our 200 or so channels on cable TV and a fast connection on the internet. We’re really roughing it!
