June 16, 2012 – River’s Edge RV Park and Campground, Fairbanks, Alaska

We are now camped as far north as we will be during the trip! Our travel day today was great! We had sun, good roads, many more magnificent views along the road, and only a little over 200 miles. We don’t capture all of the magnificent views with the camera because they may only be through a break in the trees and only last a few seconds. Not easy to stop in hurry to catch the picture with a 10,000 lbs RV pushing the truck when you put on the brakes.

Another GREAT View
Once we were set up, we headed out to North Pole, Alaska to see Santa. Would you believe he knows where Troy is? Of course, he does make deliveries there every Christmas. He also gave us some advice for our stay in Alaska. After seeing Santa and some Reindeer, we headed back to the camper with stops for Diesel and then Fred Meyers to restock the refrigerator. It was nice to see a well stocked supermarket after visiting the one in Watson Lake after it had been cut off for 5 days. They had fruit! Vegetables! And meat! On the way back we had to stop for a moose to cross the four lane divided highway. He did cross at an intersection for cross traffic, so he must know the roads pretty well.

This evening we went into Pioneer Park to the Great Alaskan Salmon Bake. It was a buffet style with grilled salmon, prime rib, fried battered cod, crab legs, and all the associated salads and desserts. I think I can safely say that we are both stuffed.
This is a very nice park that and we are set up only about 100 feet from the Chena River. After eating so much we took the dogs down by the river for a short walk this evening to enjoy the view.
