June 03, 2012 – Tunnel Mountain Campground, Banff, AB, Canada

We left the camper this morning to drive to Lake Louise. We took the older highway which was only 2 lanes instead of the interstate highway. It paid off as we saw quite a bit of wildlife. We saw a couple of elk, a black bear, a grizzly bear, a white tail deer, a mule deer and a porcupine. We didn’t get pictures of the deer or the porcupine, but we did get ones of the bears and an elk. Lake Louise was beautiful with still some ice and snow cover. The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise (the hotel) was beautiful and it was all very scenic. We drove a little further to Moraine Lake which was at a higher elevation and it was snowing a little there.

Coming back to the camper, we drove on the Trans-Canada Highway (interstate) which has fences along both sides to keep the animals off the roadway. They have created wildlife overpasses which are arched shaped bridges covered with trees so the animals can cross without getting on the road.

We’ll go back into Banff this evening to eat and try to find somewhere that has Wi-Fi so we can post yesterday’s and today’s entries.
