Pictures of pictures of the washouts.
Even without Wi-Fi (since I am too cheap to pay $8 for 5 hours), I am glad we came this far. We have some cable TV, power, and water to make us comfortable. There is a good separation between campers here, where they were right up against each other in a gravel parking lot in Watson Lake. Talking to the road worker guarding the road closure, the road is also washed out south of Watson Lake. When we decided to leave yesterday, the road was supposed to be open at noon and the Watson Lake campground was overbooked by 4 spots with people staying over and more with reservations already. The guy told me Watson Lake is a zoo right now with everyone that has come into town and is stranded. The grocery is running out of food and hoping the delivery truck can make it through this morning. The restaurants are opening up for people to cleanup since everything is full. North of us is a lodge that is between washouts. They are running out of fuel and groceries also. He said they plan to fly in some food for them today. We did have phone service in Watson Lake, which we don’t have out here. When you consider all things though, we are blessed and in good shape. Saturday, June 9, 2012
June 9, 2012 –Nugget City Campground, west of Watson Lake, Yukon Ter. Canada
We woke up this morning (Sat) with what looks to be a nice, no rain day. But the road is still closed. I (Larry) went up to the road to ask the status and was told that it will be Monday before the road is open. They had four printed pictures of the washout, so I went back up with the camera to take pictures of the pictures. We also lost power for about an hour. It seems that one of the poles by the bridge south of us was washing away and they had to reroute the power line.
